Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

• Account information: your name or username, email address, mobile number, profile photo, and sign-in provider identifiers.
• Listings: item descriptions, photos, categories, availability, pickup notes, and listing status.
• Location: an approximate location for public discovery and a more precise pickup location kept separately for an approved pickup.
• Activity: pickup requests, time proposals, messages, reports, blocks, notifications, Credit balances, and transaction records.
• Technical information: security logs, device and browser information, IP address, and diagnostic events needed to operate and protect the service.

2. How we use information

We use information to create and secure accounts, show nearby items, process listings, coordinate pickups, deliver notifications and OTP codes, maintain Credits, prevent fraud and abuse, respond to reports, provide support, and improve FreeNearby.

3. Location privacy

The public map is designed to show an approximate item location rather than a giver's exact address. Precise pickup information is restricted and is made available only where needed for a confirmed pickup. Users should share only the minimum additional location information necessary to complete an exchange safely.

4. When information is shared

We share information with another user only as needed to arrange a pickup. We also use service providers that help us operate FreeNearby, including Supabase for authentication and data, Vercel for hosting, Google Maps for maps, Semaphore for SMS delivery, and PayMongo or other payment processors for Credit purchases. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy practices.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the public, to investigate misuse, or as part of a business reorganization with appropriate safeguards.

5. Payments

Payment details are handled by the payment provider. FreeNearby records transaction references, amounts, status, and purchased Credits, but does not store complete card numbers or payment account credentials.

6. Retention and security

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce our terms. We use access controls and technical safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

You may update profile information, manage listings, choose whether to provide device location, block or report users, and request access, correction, deletion, or another available privacy remedy. Some records may be retained where legally required or necessary for safety and fraud prevention.

8. Children

FreeNearby is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly allow children to independently arrange local pickups through the service.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service develops. Material changes will be communicated through the service or by another reasonable method.
